It's been quite a weekend for LCARS Interface for Windows 8! I was browsing the Windows Store when I noticed that LCARS Interface was now the top featured app for the Entertainment category! We never did submit any promotional images for this app, but apparently Microsoft thought it was good enough to feature and made their own! Since then we've been getting tons of great feedback on the app and lots of great new feature requests.
Upon looking in the Windows Store tonight, LCARS Interface is now the top app in the Entertainment category, and #12 in the Windows Store Top Paid apps overall!
Thank you everyone for your support and feedback, and we look forward to making LCARS Interface, as well as our other current and upcoming apps, even better in the coming months! We also thank those of you who have given us so many great 5 star reviews! Knowing that people love this app as much as we do gives lots of motivation to continue improving it. This app has come a very long way since its initial release, and it's not done yet!
Wow nice :)
ReplyDeleteCan you post a few stats to the app?
Great app! Lots of fun. Thanks! (BTW, worth every penny)
ReplyDeleteThank you! It is a lot of fun working on it, and knowing that our users like it gives some extra motivation to continue improving it.
DeleteThis app is great, I bought it, but I'd be concerned with the legal ramifications of selling it. Similar apps were taken down from the android store because of copyright claims by CBS.
ReplyDeleteIf the app was free then I wouldn't think anything of it. However, you are making money from this application. Just be careful; I'd hate to see CBS ask MS to ask you to take it down.
We have been careful not to use anything like Starfleet logos and don't actually mention Star Trek in the actual app for these reasons. Many of the sound effects you would swear are from the show are actually reproductions that sound very similar. We haven't gotten all of them replaced yet, but it's not an easy process either.
DeleteEven being a "top selling" Windows Store app isn't enough to make much money right now. And we do pay a fee monthly for the weather data due to the features we have and the number of users that we have. Factor into that the actual development fees for Microsoft, and that they take 30% off the top of every sale, and you aren't left with a whole lot. Especially when you factor in all of the software and other services that we pay for to make certain things in the app possible as is mentioned in the FAQ as to why it is not currently a free app.
Should Microsoft be forced to remove it, we will re-evaluate whether or not it can be reworked as a free app with things like the weather data removed and some other changes, but that will also heavily reduce the amount of features that get added later and lengthen the development time if we can't pay for things that speed it up. We certainly love working on this app, but if it becomes a cost rather than slightly above breaking even, its priority among all of our other projects will drop significantly.
That all said, we have also spoken with several Android developers who currently have apps in the store about this very issue and they have not mentioned any problems, so hopefully we will not have any either considering our level of potential copyright violation is quite a bit lower than some others.
