LCARS Interface [Windows Phone] Release 7 is now Available!

It was a busy weekend for us in making LCARS Interface updates, and now the second of our submissions has been approved and should be available to download soon!

This update brings a brand new module to the mix, the Scanner! The scanner includes a Compass for finding your way, as well as being able to read the magnetic fields around the device and show you the vector for it. Some great new animation was added for this module, and we will be making adjustments and additions to the Scanner module in future updates. As with the other modules, this one can also be pinned to the Start screen from the "Settings" page for quick access!

We have also included a few bug fixes, including one issue that sometimes occurred when coming back from standby, and a couple other smaller issues. We have also fixed several minor glitches with the animations, so they should hopefully always be more fluid now when moving between screens. We've also changed the start up animation to match the new one on the Windows 8 app, and it is slightly different depending on whether you have "Extra Animations" enabled or not. We also now have more testing devices, so everything for Windows Phone is going to be tested on Windows Phone 7.5, Windows Phone 7.8, and Windows Phone 8! We will be making some adjustments in the next few weeks to optimize the experience across multiple device sizes and resolutions, rather than being optimized only for Windows Phone 8 and 4.5" screen sizes as it is currently.

  1. I like the spinning magnetic field animation; it has thin lines and detail. This type of animation in other areas of the app would be really cool. Also, some of the extra animations are a bit slow- it's weird entering the settings and waiting that extra second for the buttons to appear. An option (or just a change) to speed up the extra animations would make navigation smoother IMO.

Also, I've been having trouble to get the live tile to work since it was introduced. I've re-installed the app several times to no avail, and background tasks are enabled for the app. I've got an HTC 8x on T-Mobile if that helps.

    1. We make adjustments to the animations pretty much constantly, so we will gladly take another look at the Settings animation and possibly change it again or just speed it up.

The tile sometimes takes up to an hour before it will actually begin to flip since it is limited by the operating system on how often it can update. We are currently testing this feature on multiple devices to see if we can replicate your issue with it. Also, since you didn't mention it, make sure you are adding the secondary tile for the weather from the Settings menu. The main app tile is not live. Please let us know if waiting a little while does not resolve the issue you are having with it and we will troubleshoot it some more. Sorry that you are having issues! We will try and get it fixed up for you.

  2. Great app! I gave it a 5stars rating in store review. Weather live tile has stopped working on my Lumia 720 since the update. I hope in a future update that you can make a small live tile to show current temperature to save space on my busy start screen? Thanks.

    1. Thank you for the review! Try removing the weather tile from your start screen and adding it again. It should restart updating the tile after opening the app again. Sometimes it takes a while before it will start updating depending on when the operating system decides to start it.

I don't think it's currently possible to make the small tiles show anything but images. We will look into this further though!

  3. Sorry if this comment isn't in the right section...

How did you resolve the copyright issues with Paramount/CBS?

  5. Well done Nick! An alternate first for Tesco! I stay to be persuaded at the achievement of the Windows Mobile stage. Microsoft have an enormous measure of making up for lost time to do. In any case, its about decision for the great old client. When they have an iphone, Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile or whatever viable mechanism, regardless they'd hope to have the ability to collaborate with any semblance of Tesco. An alternate venture in the right course. Mark Cody, Telefónica O2 UKmobile app development // mobile app developers // iPhone app maker
